Yorkville Patch Blogger Being Sued For Comments

Todd Milliron will be in court Monday over comments made in his blog about a former chief judge.

A Yorkville Patch blogger is being sued for comments made in his blog and will be appearing in court on Monday.

Todd Milliron, defendant, will be in trial against former Kendall County Judge, James Wilson, plantiff, for comments made in the Milliron's blog entry, "The 9mm Buddy Badge and other Unknown Badge Holders at Kendall County Coroner’s Office," published Oct. 22, 2012.

In the blog, Milliron writes that Wilson has patronage appointment from Coroner Toftoy, which "allows him to possess a “conceal and carry” 9mm firearm with associated county liability insurance protection." Milliron says that is something the taxpayers funded at a cost of $429.93.

The blog also read that despite being sworn in as a Deputy Coroner, Wilson has never done any work and does not have a county payroll number.

All information in the blog was obtained from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, said Milliron. The blog was one of several in a series that Milliron wrote leading up to the 2012 Kendall County coroner's race.

"I believe the body of my documented research which I have presented on Yorkville Patch during this election time period/cycle was factual and advocating for government action, which is protected free speech," said Milliron.

Wilson has reportedly been called out before. According to an article in the Ledger-Sentinelthen Kendall County board member Anne Vickery called Wilson a "bully" and said he had a history of bullying people in 2011.

"Mr. Wilson's deputy coroner employment records and tax funded training was just one of the many questionable things I uncovered in the Kendall County Coroner's office from Feb. thru Oct. 2012," said Milliron.

"If anyone should understand the laws of allowing an Illinois Citizen to participate in our local government and the concept of free speech, one would think a former Chief Judge would."

Wilson Vs. Milliron will be held at the Kendall County Courthouse on Monday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. before Judge Robert Pilmer.
