How old soccer gear and a dedicated few change the world!
Every year a team of young adults from this area goes to Haiti to help change the world. This year will are doubling our efforts and are asking for your help!
For the last six years, I have been leading a team to Haiti to help those who live in the poorest country in the western hemisphere. It's always amazing. We feed the poor, clothe the naked, offer a cold drink of water and a provide a break from the monotony of poverty by just playing with the kids. It's this last action which always break down the most barriers and allows us a real connection to the people. Our Haiti mission trip is planned for June 28-July 5, 2013. This is our third year of taking a group of local youth to Haiti. Each year we end up in the tent city orphanages, schools and other compassion ministries in and around the Port Au Prince area. Many lives are changed both in Haiti and for those who go and serve. Last year we were able to provide food and clothing to a significant group of Haitians and support aid groups looking to make a difference. We served over 120 orphans and restiveks (child slaves) last year. This year we would like to more than double our efforts so we have doubled the size of our team to 24 and are in need the community’s support. To accomplish our goal, we have three requests: First, we are asking the community donate gently used but clean soccer gear (shirts, shorts. cleats and shin guards).The donations can be left at Wheatland Salem Church's Oswego campus (the neon church) in front of the family entrance on Wolf's Crossing.Second, We inviting you to join us at our trips fundraiser at the House of Music in Arlington Heights on June 2nd from 1pm to 6pm. They have generously donated a great space for the event. We have professional musicians from all over who are stepping up to entertain and many great organizations are providing raffle prices to this all ages event.Third, Please consider donating financially to our cause.
