District 308 Board Approves New Organizational Chart with New Administrative Positions

The chart shows a restructure of the department of teaching and learning by adding new administration areas based on priorities of the district.

Oswego 308 will be seeing some new administrative positions starting for next school year as shown in the organizational chart approved unanimously by the board of education.

The chart, presented to the board members by Superintendent Dr. Matthew Wendt, was made to address the many challenges facing the growing district – the ninth largest in Illinois. Wendt said 308 is anticipating 20,000 students by 2020 and the chart will show centralized leadership and management, both very important factors to the district.

The chart leads with residents at the top, who then elect the board of education, which is followed by the superintendent. You can view the full chart in the attached PDF (zoom by using the magnifying glass in the bottom left corner).

According to the chart, the Department of Teaching & Learning will be restructured with a focus by new administration on areas including: instructional technology, special education, data and assessments, online learning, dual credit, Advanced Placement, professional development, Core curriculum and curriculum review cycles, gifted and talented education, ELL programming and services, grant writing, federal funding and programming and principal evaluations.

These areas were listed as priorities by the administrative team, faculty representatives, and the board's Teaching & Learning Advisory Committee.

The Department of Teaching & Learning previously consisted of 18 budgeted positions, but has now been restructured to 16 positions, said Wendt. The cost for personnel salaries in the Department of Teaching & Learning will remain the same as previously budgeted: $1.43 million.

The chart also shows the new position of Assistant Director of Finance as was recommended by the Board's Finance & Operations Advisory Committee and Superintendent.

The position will have a priority and focus on centralized purchasing. It will be self-funded through additional rebates expected from the district’s Procurement Card system.

Another new position—Assistant Director of Human Resources—has also been recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board. District 308 has approximately 1,800 staff members and additional assistance is needed to oversee and facilitate human resources.

“The district is a large organization with only one staff member with clerical assistance,” Wendt said. “It is time to add one person to fulfill personnel-related obligations.”

The new structure will promote Dr. Paul O'Malley to the number two spot in the district. Dr. O’Malley will serve as an Associate Superintendent, filling in for Dr. Wendt and representing District 308, as needed.

Most positions will begin July 1, although, Dr. Judith Minor, recently hired as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning will begin her duties with the district May 1.

Several of the new positions are still open on the district website
