Company Apologizes to Oswego 308 Over Employee Who Brought Gun to OEHS

Sterling Engineering employee Michael T. Martin was arrested after bringing a gun into OEHS last week, which prompted a lockdown of the school.

Sterling Engineering issued a letter of apology to Oswego 308 and all affected by one of their contractor's actions last week.

A gun was found in an Oswego East secured faculty bathroom, Wednesday Oct. 30. The incident prompted the school to go on lockdown for just over an hour while Police went through the building.

Oswego Police were able to determine who was responsible for the gun and took an IT contractor employed by Sterling Engineering into custody.

Michael T. Martin, 62, was charged with the unlawful use of a weapon, with an additional enhancement because the gun was on school property, making it a class 3 felony.

Martin was contracted to work for Oswego 308.

Sterling Engineering wrote a letter, which the school district publicly shared on Nov. 7.

"It is 100% completely unacceptable for anyone representing our firm to carry any sort of firearm or weapon into any workplace, but especially into a school," wrote Sterling CEO Dolores Connolly.

"We are relieved that nobody was hurt in this incident. But, we fully understand and appreciate the angst of parents who want to be certain that their children are safe and secure in school. We should all expect that--everyday.  Please be assured that we are taking all the steps required and doing everything we can to ensure that an incident of this sort never again occurs—in Oswego or elsewhere."

According to Kendall County court records, Martin is due in court on Dec. 18.
