District 308 Assistant Principal Hired in Wheaton

Rachel Bednar, assistant principal of Plank Junior High School, has been hired as the new principal of Edison Middle School in Wheaton.

The Wheaton Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education appointed Rachel Bednar, assistant principal of , as new principal of at its meeting Wednesday night.

Though District 308 has not issued a press release on Bednar's exit, Human Resources Director Kritsy Kuntz confirmed it Thursday. Bednar has been with District 308 since 2000. She has been the assistant principal at Plank for the past four years, and served as the director of the Learning Resource Center at Oswego High School from 2004 to 2008.

Prior to that, she was the director of the Learning Resource Center at Bednarcik Junior High School from 2002-2004, and she taught language arts and reading in Oswego and Chicago.

Bednar earned her bachelor’s degree from Chapman University in Orange, CA, and masters’ degrees in curriculum and instruction and educational administration from Concordia University and Governors State University, respectively.

Wheaton Warrenville Community Unit School District Superintendent Brian Harris said Bednar comes to the district with skills as an "instructional leader, who will continue the traditions of excellence at Edison and will find ways expand the positive learning experiences for those students.”

Bednar started her new position in Wheaton Thursday morning.
