District 308 Officials Tapped for Premier Training Program

Submitted by Oswego School District 308:

Two senior level District 308 administrators were selected for a premier training program to help develop and improve district-wide educational strategies.

Associate Superintendent Dr. Paul O’Malley and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Judith Minor were among the 50 applicants admitted to this year’s SUPES Academy. Over 400 educators and leaders applied for the national program. The SUPES Academy is considered one of the country’s top training programs for aspiring superintendents, but there is also a special focus on creating and interpreting strategies to increase student achievement.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt said he was extremely pleased two District 308 administrators were admitted to the program.

“We are fortunate to have some of the finest district administrators in the state working in our school district,” Dr. Wendt said. “I know Dr. O’Malley and Dr. Minor will represent us well. This is a wonderful opportunity for them, and I look forward to seeing what they bring back to School District 308.”

The goal of the program is to empower education leaders with skills necessary to transform the nation’s schools. Workshops are given on topics such as navigating political and economic pressures, response techniques in real-world situations, and training in business and crisis management. Special focus is placed on increasing student achievement in the attendee’s home district.

Sessions will take place in Chicago in September, October and November, and in January 2015. The sessions culminate with a graduation weekend at the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) National Conference on Education in
February 2015.

“This group of educators is an incredible group of passionate and talented leaders,” SUPES Academy CEO Gary Solomon said. “We look forward to working with them, and seeing them grow into our next district leaders to help schools across our country grow and succeed.”

District 308 Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Dr. John Sparlin has also graduated from the program.
