La Petite Academy Oswego Hosts Junior Kindergarten Open House
The program serves children who are not old enough or not yet ready for kindergarten.
La Petite Academy, 1260 Douglas Road in Oswego, will host a junior kindergarten program overview on at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, March 13.
La Petite’s junior kindergarten is specially designed for children who are not yet old enough to attend kindergarten or for children who may not be ready for kindergarten. Junior kindergarten is a five-day full day program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The program will feature curriculum from Literacy by Design, Everyday Mathematics and Handwriting Without Tears, all of which are aligned with the State of Illinois standards for kindergarten.
This curriculum will help children learn word building and decoding, reading and writing of common sight words, comprehending stories and informational texts, writing stories and ideas, addition and subtraction, introduction to fractions, and counting forwards and backwards by 2s, 5s and 10s. Additional focuses of this program will be to help children follow multistep instructions, organize work, handing strong emotions, setting and achieving goals, and critical thinking and program solving.
