@ Dnb3kids you would be the ignorant one. Because I know it's the boundaries. What i'm say is build your OWN school District. Then you will quit messing with our kids who deserve to stay in their schools.
JMH February 28, 2012 at 06:44 PM
Yeah, thats the solution Maria! Get real! We pay taxes into the district too and not all Oswego schools are in Oswego!!
Dnb3kids February 28, 2012 at 06:51 PM
@maria- Ok clearly you are not a parent... I won't waste my time. Attending the meeting last night was an eye opener and Montgomery residents of dist 308 need to make sure we have a voice!
Jane Enviere February 28, 2012 at 06:59 PM
I didn't find it that shocking. I'm not necessarily a fan of hers, but I don't think it's unreasonable to see that when you don't really have any significant proximity to a school, you can end up a couple of places by bus. Especially when you are overflowing with kids. Even if she meant it that way, I have to chuckle at the outrage because heaven knows there are plenty of subdivisions around here that feel that way themselves. lol
Maria February 28, 2012 at 07:54 PM
Clearly I am a parent of 3 children that have been affected by this bull. So don't assume.. Aurora has an established district, so stay out of ours. And if Montgomery is getting bigger and needs a place to put THEIR kids build your OWN schools and pay your taxes to Montgomery.
Jane Enviere February 28, 2012 at 08:07 PM
@Maria - do you understand how districts are established? You don't just up and make your own schools. And you do realize that Aurora residents, for the record, goes to several districts.
Dnb3kids February 28, 2012 at 08:42 PM
@maria - you claim Oswego as if you were a founder...relax. Your tone is one that creates an us against them. I think we all want our kids to go to a neighborhood school. We are walking distance from Lakewood but my kids are bussed to Boulder Hill. We are ALL affected!!
Elizabeth Braun Wilke February 28, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Let me double down on that NEWSFLASH and remind her that over here in my part of Aurora I pay my TAXES (thousands and thousands) to the DISTRICT 308 OSWEGO school board!
Elizabeth Braun Wilke February 28, 2012 at 08:57 PM
Thanks Jane. I am an Aurora resident and the schools my children attend are in Aurora BUT those schools are under the 308 boundaries which I pay my taxes to. Aurora residents have at least 4 different school districts within their city limits. I feel horrible for the kids getting moved around, who have to travel further, who have to leave their "home" school. I am fighting for my elementary kids and supporting the other parents trying to stay close to home too. The "name" of my city doesn't matter one bit if I am in the district boundaries.
Elizabeth Braun Wilke February 28, 2012 at 09:01 PM
YES! My friend in *saratoga springs said the same thing. She was okay with Boulder Hill though b/c it was such a supportive school. I think we all want essentially the same thing and we should support each other.
Robyn Vickers February 28, 2012 at 09:33 PM
I agree that when you don't have a school across the street, you might have to travel. But to say just because some houses have been here longer, they get preferential treatment is wrong, especially when when she was elected to represent the district as a whole, not just "Old Oswego."
Jane Enviere February 28, 2012 at 10:32 PM
I think it's an agree to disagree situation. And there are various interpretations - what she said made sense to me. It didn't make sense to displace the downtown area, IMO. I don't care what anyone says - it's human nature to have bias. Every single person involved in this, at any level, had a bias. And it wasn't just "what's best for all kids". Which is fine. It's to be expected, in my opinion. At any rate, like I"ve said before - what messed this up was this love affair with neighborhood schools and feeder systems. I hope they reconsider this the next go around. And with luck - we won't have to worry about it. This has pretty much solidifed our position that this district has gone from adequate to a disaster.
Robyn Vickers February 28, 2012 at 11:07 PM
I don't know. Maybe it's because I was sitting there in person watching her expressions. Maybe it is my personal bias because of watching her make ridiculous statements and push her personal agenda the past several months. But watching her repeatedly say "those kids" from Lakewood Creek (from Montgomery, natch) had less of a right to Traughber than the downtown kids was so wrong to me. All I know is that she apparently has prioritized which neighborhoods are more deserving of certain schools and that is repulsive no matter who says it and what neighborhood and/or school is being discussed. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the feeder system. 13 elementary schools into 5 junior highs into 2 high schools does not compute, especially when the capacities vary so greatly within each level. The next round of boundaries is going to be painful for a lot more people, but I believe it will ultimately be a much longer-term solution. (at least I hope so!) :)

Maria, as my kids would say "chill". Don't start dragging all of Oswego into your comments. I DISAGREE with you 100%. These families pay taxes to our school district and I would add a hefty sum. Unless you or your family has been here ( I have) all your life you look as an outsider to some of us. I would like to remind you that they shop at our stores and patronize the businesses here, which in turn brings more money into the general fund. Your comments tea-tor on being racial and there's no place for that here. If you don't like what we have you could move like anyone else. Last time I checked we live in the U.S.A. and we all have rights until you do something to have them taken away. Diversify your thinking, it's good for the soul.
Maria February 29, 2012 at 02:19 AM
GET REAL? How about get smart. I don't want you to pay Oswego taxes if you live in Aurora and Montgomery. Pay your taxes to your OWN city so you can stay out of our schools and go to your own.
Noel Wolf February 29, 2012 at 02:22 AM
...but this IS our school district! What do you mean build our own? We did. Just because Oswego got its name on the billboard doesn't mean other communities aren't welcome. Last I checked Montgomery, Plainfield, Aurora, and Oswego are all a part of the taxpaying community that pays for and attends these schools. If you would like we could change the name to something non-committal like "Indian Prairie School District 204"...like they do across the road in the "Naperville schools".
Maria February 29, 2012 at 02:25 AM
LMAO!!! I disagree with you 100% . I have lived here all my life and all of my children are in the 308 district as they should be. They have NEVER been up rooted until these Montgomery residents and Aurora residents believe their entitled. Just drop it already. In two years you will all be moved again so get over it. Common Sense it's good for the soul.
Jane Enviere February 29, 2012 at 02:28 AM
LOL -- I think I smell a troll. At least I hope so. If not, it would be wise to stop spewing nonsense. And I hope this person isn't a product of Oswego 308. Take Aurora for an example -- off the top of my head, a resident with an Aurora address could be attending a school in the East Aurora district, the West Aurora district, the Oswego district, or the Indian Prairie 204 district. Is this really news to people? lol

Maria, " You will all be moved again so get over it" I'm an Oswego resident and have been all my life. I have my doubts about you. You should know that Montgomery has been part of our school system from day one. The area north of 34 and south of 30 from many moons ago were always 308. Being a native of Oswego as you say, you need to brush up on your facts. Instead of you taking your anger out on these people you really should blame the village, the builders and the farmers who sold their "OWN" land so all these subdivisions could be built. Word of caution, I'd proceed cautiously when you attack the farmers, they don't take kindly when told what they can and can't do with their property.
Kevin February 29, 2012 at 03:10 AM
Maria, it's a SCHOOL district, not a TOWN district. We in MONTGOMERY pay probably MORE money in taxes (in the newer homes) than those in OLD OSWEGO! You forgot to add that PLAINFIELD also feeds into 308...don't be so closed minded.
Kevin February 29, 2012 at 03:12 AM
Maria..it's hard to take you seriously when you write ignorant things like "What i'm say is" C'mon! Like that's an option. Good thing YOU'RE not on the board!
Kevin February 29, 2012 at 03:14 AM
True! Wolf's Crossing, Bednarcik and Murphy are in Aurora and Plainfield. Let's take them out of HER district and see how they are able to cope!
JMH February 29, 2012 at 02:48 PM
exactly jane. I believe part of aurora also attends batavia schools. you have naperville going to aurora schools. lisle going to naperville schools.

@Maria : HERE ARE THE FACTS: District 308 schools in KANE COUNTY demonstrated high achievement on the 2010 ISAT, even with the largest class size and the lowest spending per pupil. (Source: http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/October-2010/Best-Elementary-Schools-Kane-County/) School WITHIN KANE COUNTY District 308 schools outperformed what percentage of the 128 schools within KANE COUNTY? Homestead Elementary School - AURORA 88% Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School - AURORA 76% The Wheatlands Elementary School - AURORA 71% Bednarcik Junior High School - AURORA 58% http://www.oswego308.org/assets/5/news/fact_check1.pdf MY GUESS IS IF WE COMPARED REAL ESTATE TAX BILLS, WE PAY MORE HERE IN AURORA TOWARDS OSWEGO 308 THEN YOU......WAKE UP LADY OR MOVE.
Kevin March 02, 2012 at 03:56 AM
Maria, you are a nasty, ignorant, rude person! No wonder you don't post your last name...you'd be having to watch your back! You make parents look bad! Grow up and act your age, unless you're one of those 18 year olds with 3 kids, then you're acting appropriately.
Kathy March 02, 2012 at 05:43 AM
I can't believe that I am reading in this comments section. Maria -- you have taken this discussion to an all time low point. There is nothing constructive or beneficial about your comments. Nothing you have written is intelligent conversation, just hateful remarks and small-minded, racist and derogatory comments.
Mike March 02, 2012 at 09:23 AM
Maria is a troll!
crystal March 02, 2012 at 12:42 PM
In regards to Maria, I think we are all asking you to stop being hatefull and reacist. Your suggestions are never going to become reality and nor should they. We are a community not individual towns as you see it. Its parents like yourself when you say the things you say, that I am hoping you are not feeding this down to your children so they can carry the same hatered into OUR school and to all the other children. Thats when bullys become bullys and it goes back to the home...always! Please stop being so hateful, and if you dont like all the towns that create this school district, then maybe you should homeshcool and then you will be your own little district and your kids wont have to worry about anyone else being a part of them. you'll be alone. We clearly see that decisions have been made that are upsetting many people and familys, its sad but its happening. We all are going to to through this differently...I know I am I have my moments too. I thnk in the end though, its going to work our, we are going to meet so many great familys, help eachother out and emotions will begin to take a turn for the better. Lets just be supportive to oneantother and what we are ALL going through and make it positive for our children!! They need that from us, not the anger, hate and ignorance. Anyone?? :)

It's the small minded individuals like Maria that make this entire process of boundaries a highly sensitive and frustrating process. Her feelings will be a direct reflection on her kids and that will spill over into the schools and effect other kids unfortunately. Anyone recall a few articles in the past and comments from parents such as her referring to Oswego East as the "ghetto" school? "THAT" side of town vs. "THEIR" side of town? Still hear it today with some of the high schoolers especially....wonder where they got that idea from? hmmm.
