No 'Hit List' at Oswego Junior High: District
Spokesman said there was no risk to students, despite rumors at Traughber.
Rumors of a "hit list" at Traughber Junior High were unfounded, according to Oswego School District.
On Thursday, district spokesman Brian Graves told Patch there was no threat at the campus, 570 Colchester Dr.
"There was no heightened security or threats to the building and all students were safe yesterday," Graves said via email. "There were no incidents."
Some parents kept their kids home on Wednesday after rumors that a student had created a "hit list" swirled at school and on social media, according to the Aurora Beacon.
Graves told the newspaper that it was "business as usual" at the campus.
Wednesday wasn't the first time rumors stirred fear in Oswego School District.
In December 2012, district officials took action after rumors circulated that an act of school violence could occur on Dec. 21, which was the last day before winter break and also coincided with the winter solstice and the purported "end of the world" according to the Mayan calendar.
At the time, the district worked closely with law enforcement to beef up security at schools, and said students initiating rumors or threats would be held responsible.
Oswego police did not immediately return a call from Patch Wednesday regarding the rumored threat at Traughber, but told the Beacon that police had not been called to the school, and were unaware of any incident at the campus.
