OEHS Dean Named Assistant Principal for Operations

Dan Durbin has been with Oswego School District since 2005.

The Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education approved the hire of Aurora resident and current Oswego East Dean of Students Dan Durbin as the school’s new assistant principal for operations. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt said he was pleased to see the district tap internal talent for the opening.

“Dan is one of many extremely talented administrators that we have right here in School District 308,” Wendt said in a press release. “I am extremely pleased that we could promote from within to fill an important administrative position. It is great to see our district’s hiring strategy of promoting our own talent come to fruition.”

As the assistant principal for operations, Durbin will assist the principal in the overall administration of the school. He will also manage building budgets, as well as oversee the student registration process, student activities, building and grounds, and other OEHS processes and programs.

Durbin has served as the dean of students since 2012, where he has overseen student discipline, attendance, the handbook, and other processes. Between 2005 and 2012, he taught physical education and social studies at Thompson Junior High School.

Durbin has a bachelor’s degree in health education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a master’s degree in school leadership from Olivet Nazarene University, in Bourbonnais, Ill.

“I am very pleased that the committee chose Mr. Durbin to serve in this position,” according to Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Dr. John Sparlin. “Dan has a strong background. He is already familiar with the district and the building, and he is an excellent choice for ensuring that we continue to provide our students with a world-class education.”

Durbin said he is looking forward to the new position.

“I will be making sure the school environment is a place that students can meet and exceed the high expectations that we set for them,” he said.
