OHS and OEHS Commencement Dates Set

A livestream of both ceremonies will be on Oswego 308's website.

Commencement ceremonies for the Oswego East High School and Oswego High School Class of 2014 will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014 on the campus of Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb.

The OEHS and the OHS ceremonies will each be held at NIU's Convocation Center. A live video stream of both ceremonies will also be on the district's website at oswego308.org. Opened in 2002, the NIU Convocation Center has a seating capacity of 10,000 with parking for 3,000 vehicles.

Mike Wayne, OHS Principal, said having the ceremony at NIU allows more students to enjoy the event with loved ones. He also noted that last year, the first time the ceremony was held at NIU, students got up to 10 tickets for family members to attend the ceremony.

Prior to last year, the event was held in the OHS gym, limiting students to only four or five tickets per family.

“It is great for families to be able to accommodate more people coming to the ceremony at such a wonderful facility,” he said. “It provides a great venue for the seniors to graduate from.”

Dr. Louis Lee, OEHS Principal, said sharing the graduation dates early gives families a chance to prepare.

“We recognize the importance of this day as a celebration of a student’s accomplishments,” said Dr. Lee. “We are pleased to be able to provide this information early allowing families to plan for this most important day.”

The 2015 graduation ceremonies for OHS and OEHS will be held May 16.
