OHS Clinches Playoff Berth by Beating PSHS

Panthers outduel Plainfield South in shootout to maintain first place tie in conference play

remained unblemished in Southwest Prairie Conference play after, defeating Plainfield South 54-32 in a shootout late Friday night.

With the win, the Panthers (5-2, 5-0 SW Prairie) officially clinched a berth in the Class 6A IHSA State Playoffs.

“It feels great (to be going to the playoffs,)” Oswego junior wide receiver Jack Kwiatkowski said. “We’re not satisfied, though, don’t get me wrong. We’ve got another wall next week to knock down.”

Oswego’s offense was captained by senior quarterback Ryan West, who completed 24 of 42 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns.

“I felt pretty good out there,” West said. “But I give the credit to my offensive line and my receivers. They did a fabulous job tonight.”

Junior running back Mickeel Stewart found the end zone three times on 196 total yards, while Kwiatkowski caught five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Senior wide receiver Josh Mapalo also snatched six passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Plainfield South head coach Ken Bublitz said he was prepared for Oswego’s spread offense to put up some points.

“They run pretty good routes, their protection’s good, and West is a good decision-maker,” Bublitz said.

Speedy senior wide receiver Dantrell Wright led the Cougars’ (3-4, 2-3 SW Prairie) attack, rushing for 88 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, while junior running back Johnathan Kosirog carried nine times for 170 yards and one touchdown.

Senior quarterback Austin Howarth also contributed 129 yards passing, on 14-for-30 and a touchdown.

Sitting at 3-4 overall, Plainfield South must now win its final two games against Plainfield East and North to qualify for postseason play.

“We need to be consistent,” Bublitz said. “We’re going to have to shore up the problems that are hurting us, and we’re going to have to find a way to get it done. Our challenge right now is to find a way to win.”
