Olympic Gold Medalist to Visit Oswego

Kristi Yamaguchi to sign books, talk to students at Churchill Elementary.

Students at will get to know an Olympic gold medalist next week when figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi visits the school.

Yamaguchi will sign copies of her children’s books It’s a Big World, Little Pig and Dream Big, Little Pig at about 11:30 a.m. Monday and deliver presentations to students at 12:20 and 1:05 p.m., said Tammie Harmon, Churchill principal. 

Harmon said Yamaguchi’s visit was arranged by school librarian Pat Lofthouse and Churchill parent Beth Krane through Anderson’s Bookshop in downtown Naperville.

In addition to her 1992 Olympic gold metal, Yamaguchi also won the sixth season of Dancing With the Stars in 2008.

“Hopefully a lot of the kids will connect with her through her appearance on that show,” Harmon said.

According to her website, Yamaguchi started the Always Dream Foundation in 1992 that works to “support the lives of children through educational and recreational initiatives.”

She will make several other stops in the Chicago area next week, including a visit to Anderson’s, also on Monday.
