Oswego East Gets New Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction

Oswego East High School will have a new face filling a familiar role as the assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, beginning in the 2014-15 school year, District 308 announced Tuesday.

The Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education approved Streator resident Laura Bankowski for the position on Monday, July 14. Bankowski currently serves as the assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Ottawa Township High School, in Ottawa, Illinois, a role she has filled since 2007.

“Laura comes to School District 308 as an extremely experienced and qualified administrator,” said Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Dr. John Sparlin. “We are highly confident based on her previous experience as an assistant principal that she will do an outstanding job at Oswego East High School.”

In her role at Ottawa, Bankowski worked in collaboration with her district’s board of education and superintendent to develop a long-range plan for effective educational programming. She also researched, developed and recommended educational goals, curriculum, instruction and programs consistent with her district’s philosophies and state standards. She will begin her new role in School District 308 at a salary of $86,000.

She has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, as well as a master’s degree in educational administration from Central Michigan University, in Mount Pleasant.

“I am looking forward to working in a K-12 district, and helping the students and teachers grow,” she said.
