Oswego East Senior is Golden Apple Scholar

Oswego East High School senior Vanessa Garcia is one of 175 Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois. 

Garcia was selected from a pool of 1,600 nominations received statewide. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois is a highly competitive program that seeks the best and brightest Illinois seniors interested in a teaching career. 

Garcia will receive advanced teacher preparation through Summer Institutes that provide the scholars with early practice and exposure to the art of teaching. She also will receive financial assistance for college. 

All Golden Apple Scholars receive tuition assistance of $2,500 per year for their freshman and sophomore years and $5,000 per year for their junior and senior years, paid directly to the scholar’s undergraduate institution. 

In addition, scholars a receive a $2,000 stipend for each Summer Institute they attend as well as mentoring support from outstanding, award-winning teachers who are part of the Golden Apple Scholars network.
