Oswego East Yearbook Staff and Advisor Earn Honors

Oswego East's yearbook, Wolf's Eye, earned numerous awards from the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association.

Oswego East High School's Wolf's Eye yearbook staff and advisor Colleen Calvey recently brought home numerous awards from the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association (NISPA) summer workshop. 

This June, the staff's 2011-2012 yearbook Blend was awarded the NISPA's Golden Eagle Best in Class Award for Overall Excellence. Blend also earned the Blue Ribbon award for Coverage and Theme.  Honorable Mention awards were earned for Design, Copy Writing and Photography.

Additionally, the most recent 2012-2013 yearbook Indefinite was named First Class by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA).  This Oswego East yearbook publication earned Marks of Distinction in Theme Concept, Design and Photography.

Along with book publication awards, individual Oswego East students also earned high marks at the Chicagoland Yearbooks Summer Workshop during the 2013 summer workshops.  The Oswego East Wolf's Eye staff earned second place in Theme.  Individual Oswego East students placed in the following categories: 

  • First Place in Photography: Marissa Sheridan, junior
  • First Place Layout Design: Makayla Wells, senior
  • Second Place Photoshop Design: Lauren Ithier, senior
  • "Dream Team Yearbook Staff:" Editor in Chief Ashley Clayton, senior 

Oswego East's yearbook staff, as members of NISPA, benefit from this organization's student leadership opportunities.  The NISPA is dedicated to student journalists and advisors in Illinois.

Through the annual conference, NISPA offers an opportunity for students to be recognized in newspaper and yearbook contests. Professional journalists and experienced advisors offer their expertise during the keynote address and individual breakout sessions during the conference experience.
