Oswego School District Hires Assistant Finance Director

The former ISBE financial consultant started her new job last month.

Submitted by Oswego School District:

The Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education recently approved Sherry Reynolds-Whitaker as the district’s new assistant director of finance.

For the past 10 months, Reynolds-Whitaker, a Bolingbrook resident, served as a regional financial consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Associate Superintendent Dr. Paul O’Malley said the addition of Reynolds-Whitaker completes the district’s financial team.

“As the eighth-largest school district in the state, it is vital for us to continue to hone our financial best practices,” O’Malley said. “Everything we do needs to work toward the goal of a quality education for our students while being responsible to our taxpayers. The addition of Sherry to our financial team will help us accomplish this.”

Reynolds-Whitaker will assist with vendor maintenance, district procurement, and a variety of other responsibilities. She will make an annual salary of $76,000 in her new role. She replaces Jeff Ryder, who was recently promoted to district director of finance.

In her role with ISBE, Reynolds-Whitaker provided school business support for more than 200 school districts in northern Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties. She assisted districts with budget projections, cash flow, and financial oversight, as well as review of General State Aid, levies, and expenditures.

She also previously served as a school business manager in District 308 and District 220. Whitaker is an adjunct instructor in business education at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.

“I am absolutely looking forward to building lasting relationships and helping School District 308 become best in class,” she said. “I will be helping assist Dr. O’Malley and Jeff Ryder add value to the district.”

Reynolds-Whitaker began her role with the district in June.
