Oswego School District Hires New Director of Human Resources

The Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education approved the administration’s choice for the new director of human resources at its meeting on Monday, June 9.

Elmhurst resident Roxana Sanders will be replacing Joe Deeney in the role. As director, she will be responsible for compensation management, discipline management, labor relations management, as well as various other HR-related aspects of running a school district with 1,843 employees.

Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Dr. John Sparlin said that Sanders will play a key role in moving School District 308 into the future.

“As School District 308 strives for becoming world class, hiring the right teachers and administrators will be a key component of that,” Sparlin said. “Roxana Sanders comes to us with previous human resources experience in an educational environment. I am looking forward to having Roxana join the District 308 staff.”

Her IMRF salary is $108,900. Sanders is currently the director of human resources at J. Sterling Morton High School District 201, in Cicero, where she administers and enhances the procedures for recruitment, application, selection and hiring of all staff.

She has served in that position since 2012. Before that, she served as the human resources coordinator for the same district from 2010 until 2012. She also worked in human resources positions for The Salem Group in Oakbrook, and The Travelers Companies in Naperville.

Sanders said she is excited to begin her new role in a dynamic and growing district.

“Strong human resources leadership can have a tremendous impact the operating results of any company, but it is especially important in public education where the product is learning and ultimately the lives of our children,” Sanders said.

Sanders has a master’s degree in school business management from Northern Illinois University, and a master’s degree in business administration from DePaul University in Chicago. She has a professional educator license, a chief school business official (CSBO) endorsement, and a professional in human resources (PHR) certification.
