Oswego School Hosts "Young At Art" Event

Brokaw Early Learning Center's Home and School Association sponsored the recent three-day "Young at Art" event for 3- to 5-year-olds, their parents, teachers and assistants on March 10 to 12.

Sandy Lowder, a certified art teacher with more than 16 years' teaching experience, was invited to organize the event and teach art classes to the children over the three days.

The children, divided into Red, Green and Blue "Villages," created "Bugs, Birds and Bees" using construction paper, pipe cleaners, feathers, colored markers, paper plates and glue sticks and their imaginations.

Each day, a different bug, bird or bee came alive as each child created their individual version. The young artists learned different methods to add color, tear shapes with their "pincher fingers" and how to "rub, rub, rub" using their markers and glue sticks.  They also learned how to listen and follow directions, while their parents learned what their children could do.

Brokaw Principal Andrew J. McCree thanked Lowder for "creating this experience for our students and families and for allowing all of them to be successful."

Lowder teaches art classes for Fox River Academy of Music and Art in Oswego and is developing and offering classes for children with special needs. Fox River Academy is newly located at 26 W. Van Buren St., Oswego.

Students from preschool through seniors are welcome. Call 630-551-4321 for information.
