Deana Pieters from Oswego East High School and Matthew Hill from Oswego High School won the Bronze Medal and Silver Medal, respectively, in Division III, Category B at the Sixth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest.

The contest took place at Northside College Prep High School on March 22.

It was hosted by the Midwest Chinese Teachers Alliance (MCTA), and sponsored by Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Chicago and Confucius Institute in Chicago. The speech was given in Mandarin Chinese without the use of notes, printed materials, or PowerPoint, and the students were judged on fluency, content, delivery and pronunciation.
