Oswego East to Host College Readiness & Scholarship Fair
District partners with DuPage County NAACP Youth Works for Aug. 23 event.

Chicagoland junior high and high school students will be able to enhance their college preparedness and learn the meaning of purpose-driven leadership at an upcoming local event.
Community Unit School District 308 and DuPage County NAACP Youth Works are sponsoring the fourth annual College Readiness and Scholarship Fair from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on, Saturday, Aug. 23, at Oswego East High School, 1525 Harvey Rd. The event is open to all Chicagoland students grades six through 12 and their parents. It features activities and seminars focused on college readiness and purpose-driven leadership. There is no cost to attend.
The event also features a student essay contest on “purpose-driven leadership.” In 500 words or less, students are invited to describe what this phrase means to them and how they will become a purpose-driven leader. The essay must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2 as a Microsoft Word attachment. The body of the email must include the student’s name, address, phone number, email, parent’s email, current school name, and most recently completed grade level. This information must not appear in the attached essay. The essays must be submitted via email to essaycontest@dupagecountynaacp.org.
Some of the organizations invited to attend include the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA); KidsMatter; United States Hispanic Leadership Institute; United Negro College Fund; Gates Millennium Scholars; DuPage County NAACP Education Committee, ACT-SO, and Youth Council; Boys II Men, Whatever It Takes; Quad County Urban League; and other mentoring agencies.
