Panthers Homecoming Roars To Life This Week

Homecoming activities include Mr. Oswego contest, parade, football games, and a dance.

Homecoming week, “one of “the most exciting times” at , will be celebrated by students and staff alike this week.

“OHS is a great school to be at and homecoming is one opportunity to show that,” said Tara Jerbi, a student council sponsor at OHS. “Whether it is dressing up for spirit days or walking in the parade, students and staff show their pride for our school. The amount of student involvement has grown each year and we expect this year to be even bigger.”

Activities kickoff Monday with the annual Mr. Oswego Contest at 6:30 p.m. in the OHS gym. There is a $3 entry fee.

“Last year, Ben Wooley won Mr. Oswego with his one-man-band performance,” Jerbi said.

This year, contestants include Ryan Splon, Josh Sledge, Tommy Schabinger, Tim Wodzisz, Zack Kingsbury, Brandon Pugh, Jamie Williams and Zach Matz.

The event will also include a donation collection for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Panther homecoming parade will kickoff from the OHS south lot at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The community is invited to attend and show their pride and spirit.

Following the parade is the annual Powder Puff Football game at 6 p.m. at the Ken Pickerill Stadium, where junior class females will compete against senior class females. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students with their student activity passes, and free for children ages 4 and under.

On Friday night, the Oswego Panthers will play the Plainfield East High School Bengals at the Pickerill Stadium. The sophomores will play at 5 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.

“We hope the community can be involved by showing support at the various activities this week and by coming out to support our panthers at Friday night's game,” Jerbi said.

Homecoming week will culminate with the homecoming dance for students Saturday night.
