Plank Principal Named Director of Secondary Education

There will be a familiar face at the helm when it comes to establishing a secondary education curriculum in Community Unit School District 308.
 
The district filled the vacant position of director of secondary education by promoting from within, hiring Plank Junior High School Principal Jamie Max. He is an Oswego resident, and has served as the principal at Plank since 2012. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt noted that this prominent internal hire as proof that the district’s staffing plan is being implemented.
 
“Jamie’s promotion from within is a great example of our hiring strategy coming into fruition,” Wendt said. “He is a talented administrator with a wealth of experience. We wish him the best in his new role in teaching and learning, and we are excited to see all that he can accomplish as one of our directors and members of the leadership team.”
 
As principal, Max oversaw special programs at Plank, which houses the dual language program. He also oversaw discipline and data analysis, and he created a master schedule for building operations. In his new role, Max will help determine the district’s secondary education curriculum.
 
In addition to his role at Plank, Max served as principal at Mountain Rose Academy in Tucson, Ariz., from 2006 to 2008. He began his career as a high school social studies teacher in 1999 and taught until 2004.
 
Max has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Pennsylvania State University, in State College, and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Rutgers University, Piscataway Township, N.J.
 
“Jamie is an experienced leader, who has already played an integral part in strategic planning and policy development within the district,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Judith Minor. “We are looking forward to the start of his tenure.”
 
Max said he is looking forward to the new position.
 
“I am honored and humbled to be able to work with and support building administrators and teachers in all aspects of curriculum and instruction,” he said.
