School Board to Vote on Bond Sale Monday

Approval of 2012 budget also on the agenda.

The School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at with a full agenda. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights.

  • After tabling to replace or renovate the district’s operations and maintenance facilities, the board is being ask to approve the $2.3 million project.
  • The board is being asked to approve the 2011-12 budget. The board and it has been on display at the and district offices for 30 days. The budget shows $172.6 million in expenses for the year with a surplus of $189,000 in the district’s education fund. Last year’s budget showed $164.2 million in expenses with a $3.9 million shortage overall. The shortfall was due mainly in the state falling millions behind in transportation funding to the district. In an analysis of 12 area school districts, District 308 ranked 10th on cost per pupil at $9,214.
  • The board will be asked to approve the administration’s recommendation on the architects for the additions at and Oswego East High School.
  • The board will also vote on the sale of bonds for the construction of the additions and a host of other capital projects approved last week, including a new transportation center, pavement work at many district facilities and the reinstatement of the Industrial Arts program at . The final bond sales figure is not shown in board documents, but preliminary estimates for the additions alone were about $54 million.
