Snapshot: Thompson Sixth Graders Hear First-Hand Accounts of Vietnam War

Durwood Hafenrichter and Rodney Henderson visited students to talk about their experiences in the war.

The following was provided by Thompson Junior High teacher David Desiderio:

Sixth grade students at Thompson were riveted by Durwood Hafenrichter and Rodney Henderson as they shared their first-hand accounts of the Vietnam War.

Students asked the speakers questions about what the war was really like and took the opportunity to fact-check what they have been reading about the Vietnam War in their novel study on Letters From Wolfie by Patti Sherlock.

Students also had the chance to see a Purple Heart medal and shrapnel from an injury sustained by Henderson during the war. Afterwards, students were able to enjoy refreshments with the veterans and talk more about their experiences.
