On Monday, May 7 four students in Angela Robinson’s Graphic Arts class were awarded first place in the Illinois Youth Digital Safety Contest sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education, in conjunction with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

The theme of this year’s contest was Bystander Intervention.  Thompson eighth-graders Brittanny Bieneman, Breanne Aceret, and Kelsey Snodgrass won first place in the grade 7-8 video category.

Eighth-grader, Margaret Hunt, won first place in the grade 7-8 slideshow category.

All four students, their parents, their teacher, and Thompson’s principal attended an awards and recognition ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield.

At this ceremony the students were presented with a certificate of appreciation for their work, a resolution statement from the Illinois State Board of Education and their contest entry was shown to all attendees.  Their award winning entries will be a part of ISBE anti bullying information for the next year.
