Submitted by Oswego School District 308:

More than 45 district administrators, staff, teachers and parents completed a series of day-long workshops last week to plan for the future growth and development within Community Unit School District 308.

The Strategic Planning Task Force workshops featured open dialogue between community members and district representatives. Additional meetings are scheduled for later this summer and fall.

The group started work in April and will provide the board of education with staff- and community-based input as it develops the next comprehensive strategic plan for the district.

During the meetings, task force members analyzed and discussed data and other information to help them understand trends and deepen their insight and knowledge of both the district and communities served.

“I am pleased with the progress we have made by a task force made up of a diverse group of representatives from our school district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt. “This is the first step in a multi-month plan that will bring to fruition a long-term strategic plan for the board to consider.”

The next draft of the anticipated strategic plan will be presented to the Board of Education on Monday, June 23.

This was not discussed at 6/23 meeting and not on Board Agenda. Is this, "The next draft of the anticipated strategic plan will be presented to the Board of Education on Monday, June 23," a misprint OR... I'm sure this group of parents are doing a great job! It is very exciting to have parental involvement and more of this is needed.

it will likely be presented 3 days before it's to be implemented, and the board members will be forced to vote on it or the changes can't be implemented until 2015 ... if it's like everything else that's been presented by the board ... ridiculous.

http://www.oswego308.org/district_leadership/boardofeducation/308_live.aspx I understand your frustration Oswego Mom. If you go to this link, I did address those exact issues at the Board Meeting last night. Right now, we are in a situation where we have to SHOW the Board and administration that there are gaps because they are functioning under the assumption if someone SAYS the parents are content, then they must be content.

Our board needs to find a better way of making rational changes. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail.

Having served as a member of more than one committee during the Dr. Behlow era, I can tell you that those committees were provided with information from the district and moderated by district employees to insure that the outcome was what the district already knew it wanted. The members of the public selected for service either were pro district or ardent complainers with the purpose of converting them to the district point of view and it also allowed them to then say, if there were issues voiced, that the community was represented. I don't know if things have changed, I would tend to doubt it.
