All five of Susan Fauth’s children went to District 308 schools, and since she was spending so much time volunteering at East View Elementary with her youngest children, she was approached by the principal to apply for a full time teaching assistant position. “I was attracted to a career in education based on my love for children and knowing that I could make a difference in helping them to learn the basic skills they needed to be successful in their future,” Susan said.

Once Susan began her career as a teacher aide, she found a permanent home in School District 308. Hired in 1985, Susan remained a teacher aide in the district until her retirement 27 years later.

Susan remained at East View from 1985 until the school was closed in 2009 for renovations. Then she joined her students in the move to the newly opened Hunt Club Elementary School. Susan’s entire career in the district was spent assisting students in those two schools. For the last three years, she worked in the kindergarten K-Leap program.

For her hard work and dedication to her students, Susan was recognized by the state with an Award of Recognition in the 2007 Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel Awards.

Outside of school, Susan and her husband Dave were active in starting and supporting the Oswego High School Sports Booster Club from 1980-97. In addition, she was very active in her support of the East View parent organization from 1972-92 and served as the Oswego Educational Support Professional Association representative from both East View and Hunt Club schools.

Susan said it has been her pleasure to work for such an outstanding school district as District 308, and she especially enjoyed getting to know the many wonderful people with whom she worked during the past 27 years. However, “the most important and self-fulfilling memory I will always carry with me will be the children,” she said. “From the education standpoint to their extracurricular activities, I have always been proud of each and every student with whom I have worked.”

Traveling and spending more time with family and friends are the ways Susan plans to spend her well-deserved retirement.
