Theater Shows Raising Funds for Education Foundation

The Oswego Foundation For Educational Excellence will host three family-oriented shows as part of the fundraising campaign for 2011-12.

The community is invited to take in a show and support education at the same time through the Oswego Foundation For Educational Excellence’s fundraising campaign.

Next week the Foundation will present the first of three family-oriented shows as part of the fundraising campaign for 2011-12.

The dance and music ensemble Barrage will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16. Illusionist Jason Bishop will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 24. Pop-jazz vocal group M-Pact will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

“This is the first time we’ve done the trio program,” said Danielle Paul, a member of the Oswego Foundation For Educational Excellence board. “These are very diverse acts but they’re all geared to be family-oriented. We’re trying to get more family-type entertainment to the area at a reasonable cost.”

All shows will be held in the Performing Arts Center.

Tickets to each show for $18 per seat or attendees can purchase the three show theater package for $45.

For more than 16 years, the Foundation has been providing educational grants to and the surrounding community for items that are above and beyond what is normally provided to the staff, as well as administering scholarship funds, Paul said.

“(The OFEE has) given out over a quarter of a million dollars worth of grants since our inception,” she said.

Past grants have gone to fund ventures such as bringing a childrens’ author to a few different elementary schools; bringing a WeatherBug system to; and creating a “Baggy Books” program in which students are able to bring home supplemental reading home in Zip-loc bags; and the Smarty Bus, which teaches elementary school students about safety issues.

Foundation funds come from individual and corporate charitable contributions as well as other fundraisers such as an annual golf outing, barbecue during Prairie Fest, the new three show theater program, and various other events throughout the year, according to the OFEE website.
