Traughber Junior High Student Council Raises Money for Charitable Organizations

Student Council puts on events to raise money for homeless dogs and cats as well as breast cancer.

Traughber Junior High’s Student Council has kicked off the year in high gear!

During the first quarter this group of dedicated leaders sponsored several events. With donations from Keller’s Farm, the Student Council sponsored a pumpkin decorating contest. Traughber students voted on their favorite pumpkin throughout the week of October 22-26, and the homeroom that raised the most money won a juice and doughnut breakfast. Ms. Hunt’s class raised the most money, and Mrs. Kellogg’s class won the decorating contest with their ostrich pumpkin.

All proceeds from the fundraiser went to Pet H.A.V.E.N. (Helping Animals Voice Essential Needs), a local nonprofit, volunteer rescue organization formed to help provide for the needs of the many homeless cats and dogs in Kendall County.

In addition, the Student Council sponsored a pink bracelet sale in order to raise awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer.  Each bracelet was sold for $1.00 and all proceeds went to Basket of Courage, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to bring encouragement and hope to anyone with cancer through special gift baskets.

With hard work and dedicated leaders like the students on the Traughber Student Council, more than $500 was raised for the two organizations. Future philanthropic events sponsored by Student Council include a clothing drive and a food drive for those in need in our community.
