Chiefs Rugby Advances to State Championships

Submitted by Chiefs Rugby:

With a 26-17 victory over the Arlington Stallions, the Chiefs co-op rugby team advances to the Illinois Youth Rugby Association (IYRA) Division 1 High School Boys State Championship Match.   The number 2 seed Chiefs (7-1) will take on the winner of the Brother Rice and Mt. Carmel semi-final match.  The Championship will be played on Memorial Day, Monday, 5/26/14 at the Sportscore Complex, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd, Loves Park, IL, with a kickoff scheduled for 5:00pm.  This match will be the highlight of a full-day of youth rugby at the 2014 IYRA State Rugby Championship Series.

The Chiefs advanced with a strong semi-final victory over the number 3 seed Stallions.  In an evenly played match, the Chiefs’ defense held the Stallions to 5 second half points, which proved to be the difference.  Chiefs’ scoring included two tries, worth 5 points each, by Keagan Griffin (OEHS Senior) and additional tries by Griffin Lawrence (OHS Senior) and Ben Jackson (WVHS Junior).  Andrew Kallas (WVHS junior) connected on three conversion after try kicks, worth 2 points each.
