Oswego East Wins CrossTown Challenge For First Time

All-Southwest Prairie Conference teams released

Oswego East High School won the championship for the first time this year.

The competition awards a trophy to the school with the most head-to-head victories. This year’s version came down to the final competition of the year.

The Wolves beat the Panthers 8-4 in softball to win the coveted title, which is sponsored by .

All-SPC teams released

Now that the high school spring sports season is over, student-athletes from Oswego and Oswego East high schools are raking in awards.

At the top of that list is two-time, all-state track and field medalist Riley Vann of Oswego.

Vann earned all-state medals in the 100-meter hurdles and the pole vault. She also earned all-Southwest Prairie Conference in three events.

Teammate Kelsey Hjorth, a sophomore, was all-state and all-SPC in the 3,200 and all-league in the 1,600.

Alyson Fisher was all-conference in the 3,200 run, while Folake Osibodu earned an all-SPC medal in the high jump.

Oswego East’s Ariel Michalek won the state championship in the 3,200 and was all-league in the mile and two-run runs.

Aliyah Everson, a junior, earned all-SPC medals in the 100, 200 and long jump.

Jasmine Walker, a senior, was all-SPC in the shot put and discus events.

The Wolves, 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams.

Oswego sophomore Caleb Beck (1,600) and junior Zack Kingsbury (3,200) were all-SPC in the distance events. Sophomore Alain Dixon earned an all-SPC medal in the triple jump.

John Hugunin and Scott Allegretti of Oswego and Oswego East’s Cody Burton earned all-conference accolades in baseball.

Winning all-conference awards in boys tennis from Oswego were freshman Jason Koesler, juniors R.J. Salerno, Andrew Langing and Benji Petkus and seniors Nate Kyes and Jacob Roberts, Joe Schiebenreif, Matt Anderson and Vinnie Pizzo.

Representing Oswego East were junior Dan Milenkovic and sophomores Blaine Hrovat and Austin Hwang.

In boys volleyball, Oswego East’s Keerthan Vantakala earned an all-conference award.

Oswego’s Bre Vergonet, Hajar Zaki, Megan Anderson and Christina Parkinson and Oswego East’s Lilianna Hurtado and Amanda Rohde were among those to earn all-SPC status.

All-league teams in girls soccer and softball have yet to be made public.
