Oswego Gearing Up for CrossTown Football Game Friday

Boys Golf dual settled by fifth score tiebreaker.

Friday’s Southwest Prairie Conference football match up pitting at is part of the sixth annual CrossTown Challenge presented by .

Currently, Oswego East has 1.5 points to Oswego’s 1.

Oswego is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the SPC after rallying for a 25-14 win over Romeoville last week. Oswego East fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the league after a 34-27 setback versus Plainfield South.

Boys golf duals in the Southwest Prairie Conference have been as tight as they can be.

Nearing the halfway point in the season, nine of 12 duals have been decided by five strokes or less. That’s about a stroke per scorer. That means every shot counts.

Oswego and Oswego East’s dual ended up tied at 171.

The Panthers (3-1, 2-1 in the SPC) beat the Wolves at in Oswego on a fifth score tiebreaker as Chris Britton’s 45 was three shots better than Oswego East’s fifth scorer.

Oswego’s Zach Manzella and Mike Wenc each carded 42s and each earned an individual SPC point.

Matt Anderson (43) and Alex Compton (44) rounded out the scorers for the Panthers.

Oswego East’s Austin Hwang was the medalist with a 40. He also earned four SPC points. Dominic Gryz shot a 41 for the Wolves.

 “There is a lot of parody this year in the league,” Oswego coach Chad Pohlmann said. “When you get that, these duals are going to be very close. I believe the conference will continue to be like this the rest of the way out. It sure will be fun to see how it ends up.”

The SPC meet is Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Plainfield North’s home course, Whitetail Ridge Golf Course in Yorkville.

Girls Tennis

Oswego East won two of three singles matches and three of the four doubles contests to beat Plainfield Central 5-2.

Plainfield Central’s Ali Foster beat Oswego East’s Sajela Harlow 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Oswego East’s Erin Brooks and Kylee Jackson beat Sarah Wurster and Seyla Balcazar 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Oswego East won in three sets at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles.

In Oswego’s 4-3 league loss to Plainfield North, the Panthers won at the top singles and doubles positions.

Oswego’s Christie Parkinson and Laura Dombkowski beat Plainfield North’s Kyndal Currie and Abbey Jomant 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Courtney Gooch of Oswego posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Christina Morthorst at No. 1 singles.

Boys Soccer

Oswego East posted a pair of impressive wins last week, beating Lockport 8-3 and Hinsdale South 4-0 as Dakota Bruns posted the shutout in goal.

In the win over Lockport, Jorge Alvarez scored three goals and added a pair of assists and Marco Alvarez had a hat trick. Jelani Pieters had a goal and three assists, while Danny Ruiz also found the back of the net for the Wolves.

Oswego East led 3-2 at the half.

Against Hinsdale South, Jorge Alvarez scored three goals and assisted on the other to Pieters, who was credited with a pair of assists. Marco Alvarez also had an assist for Oswego East.
