Oswego Lady Panthers Snag a Spot at State

The bowlers will head to Rockford next weekend.

The Oswego High School Lady Panthers Bowling Team traveled to the sectional tournament at Highland Park Bowl in Moline last weekend, winning a spot at the state finals.

One of 12 teams at sectionals, Oswego wound up placing third, with Waubonsie Valley in first place and Minooka in second.

The Panthers started the tournament with their highest individual team game of the season, rolling 1,159 to start the day leading the way. After games of 902 and 1,052 to finish the morning round, the Panthers headed into the lunch break in second place. 

In the second round of the tournament, Oswego put up very consistent team games of 940, 941 and 943 respectively to finish the tournament with a 198 team average for a third-place finish and a trip to the state tournament in Rockford.  

Senior Captain Cheyanne Valdez started the tournament in game one with the first nine strikes and finished with a solid game of 278. She finished the day in eighth place with a 210 average. 

Not far behind was senior Trashaunna Manning who averaged 206 on the day and finished in 14th place.  Oswego's other Senior Captain, Jessica Mendez provided a 199 average that was capped in the second game in which she finished with eight strikes in a row for a solid 258. The final senior on the squad, Lauren Torrez, finished the day averaging 186, while the lone sophomore on the team, Brittany Breedlove, contributed with a 189 average.

The State Final Tournament is Feb. 21 and 22 at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford.
