Oswego Swimmers Make a Splash

Oswego, Oswego East cross country teams start fast

The Oswego high schools co-op girls swimming team has been gaining momentum.

It started the season swimmingly by winning the 13-team Lockport Relays Saturday in Lockport. Oswego scored 318 points.

The and high school boys and girls cross country seasons are underway.

Oswego East opened the season by winning the Rich Dust Invite at Thornton Fractional South in Lansing.

The Wolves’ top three runners finished one-two-three as defending Class 3A state champion Ariel Michalek of Oswego East picked up where she left off last year by winning the individual title in 19:00.

Andrea Holm took second in 20:04 and teammate Hayley Zweig covered the three-mile course in 20:30 to finish third.

Oswego East’s boys took second with 70 points. Turner Kelly led the Wolves, finishing sixth in 16:37.

Oswego’s Caleb Beck took first place at the Naperville North triangular in 15:46.

Naperville North was first with 31 points. Oswego had 43 points and Waubonsie Valley scored 52.

“For the first time in a long time, we beat Waubonsie Valley and were only 12 points away from Naperville North,” Oswego boys cross country coach Dan Whipple said.

Boys Soccer

Oswego East is 4-1-1 after a pair of impressive wins this week.

The Wolves shutout Hinsdale South 4-0 and beat Downers Grove South 3-1.

In the win over Hinsdale South, Jorge Alvarez scored three goals. Alvarez led the Southwest Prairie Conference in goals a year ago.

His twin brothers, Marco, scored twice against Downers South. He was the SPC’s assist leader in 2010.

Boys Golf

Austin Hwang shot a 40 for Oswego East in a 169-177 Southwest Prairie Conference loss to Plainfield Central at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course in Bristol.
