Benefit Soccer Tourney Kicks Off Saturday

Kickers Club event raises money for Fox Valley Special Recreation Association.

The fourth annual Shoot for the Stars 3 vs. 3 Live Soccer Tournament, which benefits the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association, will be held Saturday at the Stuart Sports Complex, 39W585 Jericho Road, Montgomery.

The event, hosted by the Kickers Soccer Club of Aurora, is open to those ages 6 and up. The entry fee is $185 per team, which includes T-shirts and parking for the entire team.

The event raised more than $5,000 for the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association a year ago.

“Last year, we had teams from all over the Chicago area participate, including teams made up of policemen and firemen, as well as a group of special needs children,” Kickers board member Brad Martin said. “We have teams of all ages and skill levels competing.”

There could be as many as 16 divisions of female, male and co-ed teams. A maximum of six players are allowed per team.

The event will feature a disc jockey, ice cream eating contest, Ozzie Cougar from the Kane County Cougars, Wendy from Wendy’s Restaurants, McGruff, the Crime Dog, Mario and Luigi from Super Mario, food and lots of fun.

Registrations start at 8 a.m. with the first games of the tournament beginning an hour later. Registrations are also being accepted at www.kickerssoccerclub.org.
