Vann Wins Two Events at Plainfield South Triangular

Oswego beats Oswego East in boys tennis.

used the Plainfield South girls track and field triangular as preparation for its weekend invites.

Riley Vann’s first-place efforts in the pole vault (12’0”) and 100 hurdles (15.56) highlighted the day’s events for the Panthers.

“These meets are about gaining experience racing and prepping for our big weekend meets,” Bechina said. “You can’t deny race experience as part of your training. We did a really nice job today, which was fun.”

Other winners for Oswego included Kelsey Hjorth in the 800 (2:30.91) and Allison Darby in the mile (5:50.5). Oswego also won the 3,200 run and 3,200 relay.

“We’re really seeing a lot of nice things happening,” Bechina said.

Boys Tennis

Oswego won four of five doubles matches and two of three singles matches to beat Oswego East 5-2 in a Southwest Prairie Conference boys tennis dual April 14 at Oswego.

Oswego East’s Blaine Hrovat (11-1) posted a come-from-behind, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over last year’s SPC runner-up at No. 1 singles, Oswego’s Austin McWethy.

Also winning for the Wolves was the tandem of Rashad Kulam/Ahbipsit Srivastava (7-6) (4-6) (6-3). Oswego East’s records are 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the SPC.

Girls Soccer

After a scoreless first half, Oswego East scored twice to post a 2-0 win and hand Minooka its first Southwest Prairie Conference loss of the season.

The Wolves improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SPC.

Senior Katie Ross scored off of an assist from Carli Schlaker.

Brittany Brewer had the other goal for the Wolves.

Minooka had 12 shots on goal and Taylor Wilke turned away 12 shots in the net.

Softball

The Panthers scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back during a 12-4 Southwest Prairie Conference win over Romeoville Thursday, April 14 in Romeoville.

Miranda McCain and Jessa Garcia belted home runs for Oswego (3-8, 3-1 in the SPC).

Mallory Brainerd went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBI and Katherine Daley had a double and plated two runners. Shianne Williams went 2-for-3 while Taylor Lofthouse and Melissa Fitzgerald were credited with RBI.

Oswego added two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Romeoville scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings.

Baseball

Oswego Romeoville Thursday, April 14 in Oswego.

Tim Wodzisz knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to make a winner of Nick Gerber.

Parker Meek was 3-for-5 with a grand slam, while John Hugunin and Tyler Schwerin each were 4-for-5. Scott Allegretti was 3-for-4.

Oswego won the series as each team protected its home field during the three-game set.

Oswego improved to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the SPC.

Plainfield North High School completed its second Southwest Prairie Conference sweep by beating Oswego East 14-0 in five innings Thursday, April 14 in Oswego.

Oswego East fell to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the SPC after being swept by Plainfield North, which is ranked No. 3 in the Chicagoland area by one Chicagoland metropolitan daily newspaper.

Boys Volleyball

Oswego dropped a 25-19, 25-20 Southwest Prairie Conference decision to talented Minooka, which took fourth in the state a year ago.

Freddy Miller had six kills, Alex Pena had six digs and Matt Purcell had three blocks for Oswego (4-5-1, 2-2 in the SPC).

Danny McGuire (five digs), Jason Hines (four digs, four kills) and Quentin Kovac (two kills) also played well for the Panthers.

Boyer Kornfeind and Billy Burke, who had four digs, combined for 11 assists. Brandon Garcia had a dig, a block and a kill.
