Wolves' Road Show Comes Home, Sort Of

Oswego East pulls away for 53-41 win over Oswego

The Oswego East High School girls basketball road show was as close to home as it could get.

Oswego East, which is in the midst of 11 straight regular season road games to start the season, traveled cross town to face Oswego in the sixth year of the District 308 rivalry.

A 15-2 run in the second quarter and 23 Panther turnovers paved the way for a 53-41 victory for the Southwest Prairie Conference co-leaders.

It was the fifth straight win for Oswego East, which sits at 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the SPC.

“Winning four conference games on the road has been nice,” Carretto said. “Now, we have to keep it going.”

Oswego East senior guard Arneasa Blair led all scorers with 20 points. She also chipped in five assists, five rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

“She figured out she could take the game over,” Carretto said of Blair.

“We all did a very good job contributing,” Blair said. “We did a good job moving the ball around.”

Sophomore Aysia Bugg added 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore Venita Parsons chipped in six steals and six assists, while senior

Kylee Jackson and junior Brittany McWaine tied for the team lead with nine rebounds.

“I thought we hung in there defensively pretty well tonight and obviously, Arneasa is a senior and had a good night,” Oswego coach Chad Pohlmann said. “We’re still learning how to play good team defense and understanding our system.”

Junior Caeleigh Morton’s 12 points and nine rebounds led the Panthers (4-6, 2-2 in the SPC) in both categories.

Sophomore Kelsey Nelson came up with 11 points and six rebounds and freshman Erin Sinnott pulled down seven boards for Oswego.

“When you have 23 turnovers, that’s not going to win you a lot of games,” Pohlmann said. “Give them credit and at the same time, it’s a long season and we’re gaining experience.”
