Kifowit Hosting Urban Gardening Seminar

AURORA, Ill. – With the popularity of backyard gardening continuing to increase, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is inviting the public to an Urban Gardening Seminar on Thursday, July 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Aurora Public Library-Eola branch, located at 555. S. Eola Rd.

 

“With the convenience of processed foods, it’s important for families to have access to healthy and quick alternatives,” Kifowit said, “Planting a family garden is a great way to save money and teaches children how to cook a healthy meal.”

Kifowit’s Urban Gardening Seminar is free and open to the public. She will be joined by Janice Hill, from Kane County Farmland Protection and Janie Maxwell, from the Kane County Health Department’s ‘Growing for Kane’ Initiative Program. The goal of Kifowit’s seminar is to provide attendees with gardening tips and to increase the amount of fresh food grown in the 84th District. Participants are welcome to bring specific questions or gardening challenges to get assistance from the experts.

“Not only is creating a home garden a healthy alternative to processed food, but it also sets aside a time and place where families can gather and work together,” said Kifowit, “With this combined effort, we can make our area more sustainable and environmentally friendly, and even save families some money.”
