Kifowit Recognizes Diabetes Awareness Day with Free Screenings for Area Families

To help spread awareness of diabetes prevention and treatment options, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, hosted a Diabetes Awareness Event with Rush Copley Medical Center at the Holiday Inn Express in Oswego on Thursday. Many area residents stopped by to receive free blood glucose screenings, have their questions answered by medical professionals, and get referrals for follow up care.

“Thank you to Rush Copley for bringing their vital resources and services to families of the 84th District,” said Kifowit. “Diabetes Awareness Day is a good time to stop and think about a condition that many Illinoisans face and how we can learn more about making healthy choices, living with diabetes and treatment options.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are seven million Americans that are living with diabetes that have not been diagnosed. Organizations like the American Diabetes Association work to reduce the deadly consequences of diabetes and fund research and services for people affected by diabetes.

“Diabetes is a complex and increasingly common condition,” said Donna Carter, Certified Diabetes Educator at Rush Copley. “With early diagnosis and treatment, you can prevent or minimize complications. At the Rush Copley Diabetes Education Center, we teach patients how to manage their diabetes by maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Kifowit represents the 84th District, which includes portions of Aurora, Boulder Hill, Montgomery, Naperville and Oswego. For more information, please contact Rep.
