Chalk the Walk Event Happening During Art of Oswego

Over 50 squares of art will be created.

Editor's Note: The following is taken from a press release provided by the Oswegoland Optimist Club.

On Sunday, August 19th, a portion of the sidewalks in downtown Oswego will be transformed! 

With sidewalk squares as canvas, "Chalk The Walk" is an event for kids from ages six to fifteen.  They will be creating their own individual works of art, while onlookers get to enjoy watching the process and admire the talents of the artists and their works.

This exciting event is sponsored by the in conjunction with the Oswego Art Fair, and is free of charge!  Each participant will be given a box of chalk to use for coloring designated sidewalk squares along Jackson Street in downtown Oswego, and on Main Street in front of the firehouse.

The number of designated squares is approximately 50-60.  Registration is open from at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Participants in age groups 6-9, 10-12 and 13-15 will have until 12 p.m. to create their artwork.  Judging and awards will be at 12:30 p.m.

Participants should come prepared with something to kneel on, a hat to ward off sun, plastic gloves (if they want them), bottles of water, and a plastic sheet, just in case of rain... one for the artist, and one for his/her artwork.  

This is a fantastic event that draws lots of artists and even more spectators!   Don't forget your camera!
