Downtown Oswego Packed with Events This Year

A blog announcing all the fantastic new events happening in Oswego!

So, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been hard at work promoting our great village and creating new events. With the support of the Village of Oswego (especially the Community Relations department), the Oswegoland Park District and all of our downtown businesses, Oswego is proud to announce a number of new events taking place this year.

Let’s start with the Celebration of Quilts. This brand new quilting festival will take place on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  June 2. It’s going to be an amazing day! Quilts will be hanging up and down Main Street and the festival will include a ton of stuff to do including; quilting demonstrations, appraisals, raffles, bed turnings and vendors! Most importantly, Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts will be featured. Thanks to Prairie Stitches for helping organize this first-time event!

Another fantastic new event that you won’t want to miss is our Antique Market. Join us on Jackson Street for antiques, artisans, and vintage treasures on the last Sunday of each month, June through October from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Village of Oswego and the Tourism Bureau are partnering with Re-Joyce Design and Consign located on Main Street to bring you this fantastic new event. Vendor inquiries are most welcome. Please contact Joyce at 630-554-2995 or 708-721-4985. She would love to hear from you! Also, make sure to check out Re-Joyce on Facebook.

Sundays in Oswego are going to be fantastic this summer. Why? Because on the last Sunday of June through September, you have three events taking place. The Country Market, brought to you by the Oswegoland Park District will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street. The Country Market offers some of the best buys in produce and hand crafted wares.

After that, you can join us in Hudson Crossing Park because Concerts in the Park will be back and better than ever! Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and your special finds from the Country Market or the Village Grind Coffee and sit back, relax and enjoy the tunes.

Let’s see, what else? May will bring Wine on the Fox, a two-day affair this year.Join us on the Fox River at the beautiful and scenic Hudson Crossing Park for one of the finest wine festivals around. Enjoy wine tasting from Illinois wineries, delicious local fare and musical entertainment. Wine on the Fox is hosted by the Village of Oswego and the Park District and take place on May 5 and 6. For more information, call 630.554.3618 or visit www.wineonthefox.com.

Oh yeah, as if announcing that the Misfits are opening a new brewery on Main Street in the old fire barn wasn’t enough, the Park District is announcing a new event, Brew at the Bridge! The best craft beers from our area will be presented for sampling at Oswego’s new Craft Beer Festival.

Spend a beautiful afternoon or evening along the banks of the Fox River, listening to great live music, and enjoying the best breweries in Chicagoland. What more can you ask for? This event will take place in Hudson Crossing Park from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.

If all of these new events just aren’t enough for you, the Cultural Arts Committee and the Oswego Public Library are working on putting together a Literary Festival. The festival is going to include book signings, writing workshops and author presentations and will be held on Oct. 6 at Village Hall!

Last but not least, I’ve been super busy putting together the new visitor guide. It’s been redesigned and is about to go to press. The new guide features events, shopping, dining, and lodging as well as local attractions and a brief history of Oswego.

It’s so enjoyable to promote Oswego as a sought after destination for dining and shopping  as well as performing arts and culture with all our great businesses and upcoming events. Make sure to look for the new guide at all your favorite shopping and dining destinations in the upcoming weeks.

In the meantime, mark your calendars for the Bunny Hop on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 31 on Main Street and with the warmer spring weather arriving, be sure to take advantage of our beautiful parks and trails.

And don’t forget to shop local in our beautiful Historic Downtown with its exclusive shops and locally crafted goods. The downtown businesses now have a group Facebook page so be sure to like them to keep up with all the latest happening and deals.

While you’re at it, be sure to like the Tourism Bureau’s Facebook page at so you don’t miss out on all the good stuff. There’s always something happening in Oswego, so be sure to mark your calendars with all the great events headed our way because you won’t want to miss any of them!
