Shop Local: Bella-Gia, The Prom Shoppe, American Male & Editions

A blog about shopping local!

With all the holiday festivities arriving soon I want to look my best and be prepared for the season of gift giving so I headed to the corner of Main Street and Jackson in downtown Oswego to check out the Four Fabulous Fashion stores that are , , and . Whether you need to dress up for holiday parties or just make a fashion statement, you’ll want to head to all these great stores under one roof.

My first stop was Bella-Gia, a great store that carries great fashion. From dresses to jeans Bella-Gia has some of the latest fashions out there. Their specialty is premium denim. They offer some of the top brands such as Mavi and DL1961, as recently spotted on the Stunning, Fergie, from the Black Eyed Peas. Premium denim offers a better fit and overall look due to the special sizing it offers. The store offers a euro-hem to make sure the jeans look great on you without that hemmed look and if they don’t have your size they will special order them for you!

Bella-Gia also offers the always needed basics such as tanks and tee’s and Stacey and her great staff will assist you with finding the perfect outfit. Bella-Gia also carries shoes and boots and just had a brand new collection of Uggs arrive. Fashionable AND always comfortable you’re going to definitely want to check these out.

Bella-Gia carries clothes for the fashonista. They have what’s on the edge of hot, so be sure to check back frequently as new items arrive weekly! Make sure you stop by the store on Friday, November 25th to check out their Black Friday Stuff A Bag Sale where you can save up to 30 percent so mark it on your calendars today!

If you need a great accessory to finish off your new look or just a way to spice up your existing wardrobe, head to the front of the building where you will find the store Editions and their great collection of Brighton jewelry and gifts.

If you’re not familiar with The Brighton Collection, they are known for their contemporary collection of jewels and charms that are high quality, yet completely affordable. The Brighton Collection offers everything from home accessories to handbags. Their great charms allow you to personalize your jewelry and stand out from the crowd. And if you are in need a great hostess gift or way to thank a neighbor or teacher this season, The Brighton Collection offers clever and affordable charms and trinkets. They do special order, but make sure you order early for the Holiday Season!

Around for over a hundred years in one form or another and offering three generations of dressing the Midwest is American Male. A common misconception is that American Male only offers suits and ties. American Male offers everything from casual to dressy to outdoor living and they carry top brands such as Tommy Bahama, Tony Bachman and Thomas Dean. Make sure you check out their great selection of classic sweaters, custom suits and modern shirts. Rebecca and her staff are there to help you put together the right look for any occasion. American Male provides custom tailoring at no charge and custom apparral such as embroidery on golf shirts for any size order.

Last, but not least, make sure you head downstairs to The Prom Shoppe. The Prom Shoppe offers everything from beautiful ball gowns to the perfect little black dress. They hand select each dress and offer one on one customer service. During the prom season you will find over 2,000 dresses by 30 different designers in their store. The store fulfills every color and taste and will special order a dress to make sure that you are feeling like the queen of the ball. The Prom Shoppe also offers the prom-promise, a promise to not sell the same dress to someone at the same high school as the prom you are attending. The Prom Shoppe also offer tuxedo rental for those big events in your life.

So that’s it, four great shops under one roof offering great deals and personalized help. It’s the great selection and personal relationships that will keep me coming back as well as knowing that I am supporting the local economy, not to mention I found the cutest little blue dress, perfect for work and going out. When in doubt, you can check out the store’s Face Book page for great gift giving ideas year round and keep up with what’s in style!

Also, keep in mind that the stores will also gift wrap your gift items in their signature wrapping paper. And while you’re there, make sure to stop in next door at the always relaxing for a cup of coffee or espresso. They offer a real coffee house atmosphere with plenty of mouth-watering goodies such as cupcakes and cobbler that are made from scratch by a local Oswego baker. The items change from week to week and are always a treat. The pumpkin-spice coffee of the day was a great pick-me-up for a brisk fall day and a great end to my shopping spree.

All Am. Male is overpriced. I bought two suit jackets there a few years ago for $500 and one had some threads coming lose. They took it back but didn't have another one in stock so i got another jacket that wasn't too attractive on me. Anyway, the tailoring was so-so. Check out Men's Warehouse for much better pricing, better selection, and better and faster tailoring.

I love Bella-Gia and Editions. Both are hidden gems here in town. Specifically, I have found Bella-Gia's pricing on tops, jackets and sweaters to be very reasonable. So much so, that I find very little need to travel outside of Oswego to go shopping anymore (between there, and our other Individual brand stores on Rte. 34). I'm not a big dept. store shopper, so I really like the personal attention I get when I go in. Just recently, I picked up the most adorable top and two sets of leg warmers to go under boots (one as a gift). The downside is that most everything comes in 6's - meaning they only get 6 of each style. So if you see it - get it, or it will probably be gone the next time you come in. But at least that keeps the styles fresh and interesting for your next trip in. The only thing I struggle with for American Male, is that my husband is too tall to wear much of their casual wear (he rarely needs a suit). Otherwise, I think the clothes they carry look great - and would shop there often for him if we could. The jeans, shirts - sweaters, everything is nice.
