Stay Local: AmericInn Lodge & Suites

A blog about Staying Local!

staycation is a period in which an individual or family stays and relaxes at home, possibly taking day trips to area attractions.

Staycations achieved popularity in the US during the financial crisis of 2007–2010. In 2009, the term was added to the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. Common activities of a staycation include use of the backyard pool, visits to loca parks and museums, and attendance at local festivals. Some staycationers also like to follow a set of rules, such as setting a start and end date, planning ahead, and avoiding routine, with the goal of creating the feel of a traditional vacation. The benefits of a Staycation is that it’s more affordable since travel expenses are minimal and it’s less stressful than long distance travel which includes traffic or long waits at the airport.

Looking for a quick getaway, Steve and I embarked on our own staycation recently. With two quality hotels located right here in Oswego, Steve and I had the opportunity to stay at AmericInn Lodge & Suites, located at 1050 Douglas. For those of you unfamiliar with AmericInn, they offer a genuine north woods charm and true hospitality.

We were welcomed with fresh baked cookies at check in and whisked upstairs into the Amos Kendall jacuzzi suite. In case you were wondering, Amos Kendall was an American politician who served as U.S. Postmaster General under Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.

Many historians regard Kendall as the intellectual force behind Andrew Jackson's presidential administration, and an influential figure in the transformation of America from an agrarian republic to a capitalist democracy. And yes, our county is named in honor of him!

Our suite consisted of two rooms, two tv’s, a king-size bed, jacuzzi, fireplace, sofabed, an office workspace, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker! The room was spacious and comfortable, not to mention clean!

The one thing I am most picky about when I travel is the cleanliness of the hotel rooms. Our suite at AmericInn Lodge & Suites was immaculate! After unpacking and checking out all the amenities in the suite, Steve and I took a walk along the Fox River Trail.

Starting out at the Veterans Memorial Plaza near the library downtown, we walked down the Veterans Memorial Walk where we paid respect to the members of our community who have been involved in various wars throughout history. The walk leads directly to the beautiful Hudson Crossing Park where we stopped to check out the spot where the Waubonsee Creek meets the Fox River.

From there, we walked along the Fox River Trail where we leisurely strolled past perfectly manicured lawns and beautiful blooming trees. Getting hungry as we neared Violet Patch Park, we turned around and headed back toward the hotel so we could change for dinner at the nearby Scoreboards.

Scoreboards, located at 1100 Douglas Road and right across the parking lot from AmericInn Lodge & Suites, is one of our favorite place to eat, not to mention a great place to catch the game or relax with friends and family.

They offer great food and an amazing beer selection with some serious craft brews, not to mention they pour a mean Guinness!

They offer live entertainment and weekly food specials and of course I’ll eat
anywhere that has a Monday Mac ‘N Cheese special! Make sure to check out their
Facebook page
 for weekly specials and more.

After stuffing ourselves, we headed back to the hotel to enjoy our staycation. Something you may not know about our local AmericInn Lodge & Suites is that they give back and contribute to our community in many different ways.

In the past year, they have assembled 20 care packages for soldiers through the Chicago chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America. They also donated to Churchill Elementary Home & School Association of Oswego, CASA Kendall County, Celebrate Differences Foundation, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge and the Yarn Foundation, just to mention a few.

The best part about waking up in their hotel is the free hot, home-style breakfast! They offer everything from eggs and sausage to biscuits and gravy. They even have their own Belgian waffle machines that imprint their logo right in the middle of your waffle!

AmericInn Lodge & Suites understands your need for a staycation and offers fun monthly packages such as their Bed, Breakfast & Bounce package.
