A resident asked: “What are the special laws regarding a school zone?”
First off, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that the speed limit in school zones is 20 MPH. Drivers cited for speeding in a school zone must appear in court and there is minimum fine of $150.
It is unlawful to pass a school bus that has stopped to load and unload children with its stop arm extended and flashing. The fine for a stop arm violation is $150 for the first conviction and $500 for a second conviction. Also according to Illinois Complied Statute 625 5/12-610.1, a person may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in a school speed zone.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that with school starting up again to please be cautious and keep an extra watch for children as they head off to school.
