Sections of Route 71 To Be Closed for Oswego Triathlon

The subdivision of Arbor Gate and a part of Deerpath Creek and Lakeview will also be affected during the running portion of the event.

The following release was issued by the Oswego Police Department:

The Oswego Police Department would like to inform the public that on Sunday July 21st, from 6:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Illinois Route 71 will closed from Orchard/Minkler Roads to Plainfield/Washington Street. 

The closure is for Allied First Bank’s Triathlon that will take place on this date. Detour routes have been established for motorists wishing to pass through.

East Bound Route 71 

• Route 71 to northbound Orchard Road to eastbound Route 34 (through downtown Oswego) back to the intersection of Route 34 at Route 71. (trucks and cars) 

Westbound Route 71 

• Route 34 westbound (through downtown Oswego) to southbound Orchard Road back to the intersection of Orchard Road at Route 71. (trucks or cars)

OR

• Westbound Washington Street (cars only) to westbound Route 34 to southbound Orchard Road back to the intersection of Orchard Road at Route 71. 

The biking course (20K) for this event will cover several roadways as well. In an effort to reduce traffic congestion police personnel will be at several locations throughout the biking route. The route will cover Route 71 to southbound Plainfield Road to eastbound Woolley Road to southbound Douglas Road to westbound Collins Road to southbound Grove Road to westbound Reservation Road to northbound Minkler Road back to Route 71. 

The running course (5K) for this event will also cover several residential roadways in Arbor Gate Subdivision adjacent to Route 71. Volunteers will be at several locations assisting the motoring public and participants. The roadways affected will be Paradise Parkway, Carnation Drive, Prairieview Drive, Northgate Drive and Persimmon Lane. 

Oswego Police are asking for your patience while this event takes place. Alert and courteous drivers will provide safety for the participants as well as the staff of the triathlon event. For more information on this event please visit www.oswegotriathlon.com.
