Senator Bertino-Tarrant reacts to governor’s budget address

SPRINGFIELD—Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) issued the following statement after the governor’s budget address today.

“Although this is an extremely tough budget year, I was happy to see the governor work to keep his word regarding investment in education.”

The governor offered two budget proposals in his address—the first was his suggested proposal based on the extension of the current tax rate.  The second identified cuts to services and state agencies should the current tax rate expire.

“The governor’s budget address presents many challenges in our ability to provide services to those that need them most.  This year, I will be looking at all of the budget and revenue proposals in an effort to determine how we can best balance protecting the middle class while providing essential support services to those in need.”
