Charity Polo Match Gallops into Town in September

The Rotary Club of Oswego uses proceeds from the annual event to contribute to a list of charities.

Hundreds of people will descend on in September for the 10th annual Chukkers for Charity polo match.

The event, sponsored by the and slated for Saturday, Sept. 8, features a polo match, live music, dinner, dancing, beverages and a silent auction.

Eric Mancke, co-chair of Chukkers for Charity, is looking forward to the festivities.

“I enjoy the uniqueness of the event that allows for camaraderie and fellowship among the attendees while at the same time knowing that we are all contributing in some way to support local and international and charities and their causes,” he said.

The polo match is played by local and international polo players led by Arranmore Farms owner John Greene. In past years, Oswego Rotarians Dean Kleronomos and Tim Greene have also participated. About 400 people from all over northern Illinois are expected to attend.

Mancke encourages the community join in on the fun.

“We provide a full day of entertainment for our guests while they tailgate and enjoy each other’s company,” he said. “Where else in Oswego, and for that matter the northern part of Illinois, can you find all of this? But most importantly, aside from the entertainment aspect, guests can feel good knowing that their contributions are supporting local and international charities through the Rotary Club of Oswego.”

Chukkers for Charity tickets are available at the Oswego Rotary Club’s website or by contacting Mancke at (630) 624-0520. Tickets are $125 per person.

Schedule of events (times are approximate and subject to change)

  • 2 p.m.: Gates open; tailgating
  • 3 p.m.: Opening ceremony followed by polo match
  • 5:30 to 7 p.m.: Entertainment provided by Waubonsee Community College Steel Drum Band
  • 6 to 7:15 p.m.: Dinner followed by live auction
  • 7:15 to 7:30 p.m.: Announcements
  • 7:30 to 10 p.m.: Entertainment provided by BBI
