Crossfit Oswego Hosting 9/11 Memorial Workout to Support Local Organizations

The first heat begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.

There's being a weekend warrior in your workout routines.

And then there's being a weekend warrior to help benefit local organizations and honor all those who lost their lives during 9/11.

Crossfit Oswego is hosting their second annual 9/11 343 Workout of the Day, which aims to honor the 343 firefighters, 60 police department men and women and all the others that gave their lives that day.

As such, the workout titled “343 Memorial 9/11 WOD” and consists of workouts that include the numbers 60, 23 and 37. 60 represents the police department men and women that died in the 9/11 attacks, 23 represents the NYPD men and women and 37 represents the Port Authority Officers men and women.

And Joe Miranda, owner of CrossFit, is also hoping to turn the event into a fundraiser for two groups - the burn camp for children "Camp I Am Me"  and the Silent Warrior Scholarship Fund

Last year the event raised $5,000 for Camp I Am Me.

The workout will take place at the Oswego Crossfit, 38 Stonehill Rd., on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with heats going off in half hour increments. Miranda asks athletes to arrive at least half an hour prior to their workout.

Special heats honoring firefighters, police and military will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The cost of the workout is $20 and t-shirts can be purchased for an additional $20, non-participants are welcome to purchase shirts as well.  100 percent of the profits will go towards the two charities.

Miranda said this year the event is expected to be even larger than last year. "We're expecting about 200 people," as compared to 100 last year.

Anyone wishing to participate can arrive at the event at any time and sign up for a heat then up until the final heat at 2:30 p.m., added Miranda.

You can follow the event on the Facebook page for any parking updates and additional information.
