Haul Away Day Not So 'Pointless' After All

Dingo, Ryguy pick up couches, computers, half a house.

Country music and I do not get along.

Naturally, I knew it was going to be a long day when Dingo started playing it at 6:30 a.m. in the car on the way to the Ryder Truck depot in St. Charles. The song, which I found out is (unfortunately) his ringtone, was ''Knee Deep'' by the Zac Brown Band.

As we cruised North on Route 25, one line in particular caught my attention: "When you lose yourself, you find a key to paradise."

Suddenly, that song didn't seem so bad and there finally seemed to be a point to the Second Annual Dingo and Ryguy Pointless Truck Rental Day.

As many of you know, this past Friday, I, "Ryguy" and Dan Parkinson, "Dingo" (those were our high school nicknames senior year) set out into Oswego searching for people who needed help; whether they needed something gone forever or moved across town, we were there for them that day.

Several people called into our hotline and we did our best to be there in the hour. When all was said and done, we moved couches, armchairs, china cabinets, computers and even about half of a family's estate from a warehouse to their new home.

We ended the day by pulling our two trucks into my dad's driveway in downtown O-Town and camping out in them.

We call it "pointless" not because these days don't have a purpose. Dingo and I know perfectly well what we set out to do. We call it "pointless" because when people first hear about what we're doing, the first question is always "....you're doing what? ... what's the point?"

To be honest, sometimes the best way to meet people and see the town we call home is to set out on adventures like these. Life, after all, is just an adventure that will only be fun as you take the time to make it that way.

There are nice, good, and generous folks doing awesome things all over this place ... sometimes you just need to rent a truck and go find 'em!

A special thanks to all of the people who gave us a call or stopped us on the street for giving us work and for letting us help. A HUGE thank-you to those who pitched in by donating bottled water or helped out with gas money. Great job, Oswego!

Dan and I look forward to seeing you all again next year for Dingo and Ryguy "Pointless" Truck Rental Day 2012!
